History and dashboard

The History mode lists the commits of a branch or tag, newest first. Its toolbar holds the Branches & Tags picker, which browses a ref without switching to it, with the search every list has (Searching lists), and the Fetch, Push and Dashboard buttons. A dot on Fetch or Push means there is something to move; the remote is asked when History opens if Settings → Git → Remote → Check automatically is on. See Push and fetch.

Commits not yet on the remote are marked Not yet pushed; fetched commits not yet in your branch, Not yet integrated locally. Merge commits wear a merge pill. Pull down to refresh.

A commit

Tap a commit for its changes: the message, its tags, and the list of files with a diff pane beside it. The Commit info sheet has the author, date, hash and parents. Create tag at this commit adds a tag, which the push hub can then publish.

A merge commit opens in Merge view: one section per merged-in branch, showing what that branch brought in, and each of those commits opens in turn. Diff view shows the merge against its first parent instead. The view you pick is remembered for the next merge commit.

The Tools menu's View History in the Editor mode opens the same list filtered to one file.

The capsule at the list's bottom-right corner holds a magnifier and a funnel. The magnifier opens a search field; the menu on it chooses what to match in, Message, Author, Files or Hash, and whether to be Case sensitive or match whole Words. Closing the field clears the search.

The first search on a branch builds an index of that branch's commits, and the list shows the progress under Indexing main commits… until it is ready. Later searches are instant, and the index catches up on new commits by itself.

The funnel opens Filters: a Time range from 24 hours to a year, and the Authors to keep. The funnel fills in while filters apply.

The dashboard

Dashboard on the toolbar opens a read-only page over the same index. Three dropdowns set the scope: the Branch, or All branches; the Time range; and the Authors. Each has a search (Searching lists): an author by name, then by the email as typed; the time range by its label. The Summary strip counts commits, lines added and deleted, and authors, and the commit count opens the list behind it.

  • Activity charts commits and lines over the window.
  • Authors ranks contributors, folding past ten.
  • Largest commits lists the biggest changes.
  • Hotspots ranks files or folders by how often they change, following renames to the current name.
  • Ownership lists the files or folders with a single author.

Hotspots and Ownership switch between by file and by folder with the control in their header.

Merge commits are left out of every panel. Tap a row to drill into the commits behind it, and a commit from there to read it; the back button is always named for where it goes.

A large window may need to index a lot of commits first. The app asks before a big walk and shows progress while it runs.

The index and its storage

Search and dashboard share one index, kept in the app's database per project. It is counted under History index on the project's storage screen, where it can be deleted; the next search or dashboard visit builds it again.
